MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and this rating is the primary rating system used for HVAC air filtration. The higher the rating, the larger percentage and broader range of debris the filter will remove from the air. The higher the rating, the smaller the particulate it can catch and remove from your breathable air.
- The standard filter is MERV 7 or less and catches up to 50% of particulates and allergens
- MERV 8 filter catches up to 70% of particulates and allergens
- MERV 11 filter catches up to 85% of particulates and allergens
- Coupled with a UV light, filter efficacy can increase up to 10%
